5th annual Lawnmower Race for Autism

On Saturday, May 3th at 2pm, racers at Savannah Valley Speedway will mount their specially modified mowers and race each other at speeds up to 60 MPH! It’s that time again! Scenic City Lawn Mower Racing Association (SCLMRA) is hosting its 5th annual “Get The Mowdown: Lawnmower Race for Autism.”
 
The SCLMRA hosts many races at the Savannah Valley Speedway (10516 Hwy 58, Ooltewah TN 37363 at Goodner’s Equipment) throughout the year. Barry Goodner (race coordinator) said “We love putting on an event the whole family can attend, and at the same time, help raise money for local causes.”
 
There will be 11 different classes of mowers, from stock to ultra-modified racing. All racers must be registered with official lawn mower racing associations. Barry Goodner explains that the mowers “all have basic required modifications; the blades have been removed and several other safety requirements are met. Riders must wear helmets and boots too.”
 
These races are perfect family events. Kids can come to see souped-up machines roar around a dirt track. It’s got the excitement of NASCAR but without the steep price! Families can mingle with the racers and ask about the mechanical changes or the strategies they use. It’s a great event for the kids who like to tinker.

The cost is $5 per person ages 13-years-old and up (younger kids are free). Folks should bring a lawn chair and a camera because you’ll want to capture some of this action.
